Preparations Pilot site Drogenbos (Belgium)

History of the site

Electromechanical activities were carried out on plot 38V2 until approximately 1987. Metalworking activities were carried out using paint spraying equipment, impregnation equipment, acid etching of metals, degreasing of metals with chlorinated substances, storage of hazardous products, generators and transformers. According to the permits, activities had already been taking place before 1977.

Since 1987, there have been no activities or facilities on the site.

Today, the site is vacant and partly overgrown with plants (shrubs and trees).
Parts of the pavement are still present throughout the site, as are cellars.

Preparatory work

Installation of monitoring wells to ensure sufficient measuring points in all wind directions.

  • Installation of sample the wells to establish a baseline for the injections.
This will also allow the impact of the injections on concentrations to be assessed.

  • Execute permeability tests to establish a baseline for the injections.
This will allow the impact of the injections on soil permeability to be assessed.

  • Installation of various sensors in the existing monitoring wells to monitor temperature and pressure so that the impact of the injections can be monitored in real time.

  • Practical arrangements with the contractor and neighbouring plot, as well as logistics (injection product, injection material, etc.).
